With springtime busy-ness and end-of-the-year craziness at school, things have been quite busy and I haven't had a chance to post, but there's been a lot going on! Here's some snapshots of the last 2 weeks:
- Several of our Pretty Eagle students made their First Holy Communion at the beginning of the month. They were adorable! They let each family set up a table in the church hall and everyone has their little gathering/cake/celebration right there afterward. (I thought it was a convenient system!)
Our friends Barbara & Otto with the Bishop... haha!!
- Had a soccer game one rainy Saturday and the kids actually won! It was great seeing them actually know somewhat how to play soccer... haha (the first day of games they were pretty much learning as they went out on the field!)
- Started a ballet class after school on Wednesdays; it's been so fun! They are dancing to "Love Story" and getting ready to perform in the Talent Show this week (which I am putting together too.. ah! Can't wait though!)
- Last Thursday we participated in the Heart of Crow Country diabetes awareness walk. All of the schools and communities participate; it is sort of like a relay throughout Crow Country. It was a lovely morning and a fun time walking with all of the kids!
- The Senior Handgame Tournament began last week and through last weekend. We went quite a few of the nights to cheer on Bighorn Seniors... but it went even later than the Junior games! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of our Seniors but their outfits were gold and red and looked awesome!
- Last weekend Sarah and I headed to Billings Saturday morning (after a late night at handgames... oi!) and participated in the Montana Women's Run with our friend Barbara from school. It was really fun! It was a really big event and something like over 8,000 women participated. We just did the 2-mile walk but it was a good morning!
- On Sunday we went down to Ashland to have Mother's Day dinner with Garla's family (my adopted family) It's always a nice drive to Ashland and it was a lovely afternoon. Hope all the wonderful mothers back home had a lovely Mother's Day! :)
Garla loves turtles so I made her this picture frame with a family photo from the first communion
Garla's brother Ty recently moved to an old wooden cabin up on the hillside and he took us up there and gave us a tour. It's an amazing place! The house itself is a charmingly old country cabin, in the middle of 900 acres of Montana country side. We took the Ranger out to see all of the ranch... and I even got to drive it! (Since I thought it was a really big deal since I'd never been on one before.. haha!)
There were two rooms in the small upstairs and the walls were quilted! It was so cool and really fit the old country home. I've never seen anything like that.
Riding on a ranger through a ranch in a sundress.... my Montana life.
- Wednesday we had the Spring Sports Banquet at Pretty Eagle. I went to give out the soccer awards and it was a nice evening. It's amazing how many talented students and athletes we have at Pretty Eagle! Listening to the nostalgia of the past season and hearing how far these 8th graders have come since they were tiny little 4th graders... made me wish I could see them playing high school ball next year. They'll definitely go far!
Coach McCormick speaking to the students. All of the trophies on the table were earned by Pretty Eagle teams this year who won the championships in every sport. They had an amazing year!
- Thursday was the BEST day- I went on a field trip with the 4th graders (who are one of my favorite classes) to participate in this big fair the Big Horn County Museum in Hardin was having. A whole bunch of 3rd/4th graders were invited to tour around the museum and visit a bunch of different stations about old time/local traditions... and our kids were one of the stations! We got to play HANDGAMES and show the other classes what they were. Since I'm obsessed with handgames I was in my glory! We used our outfits and I sat with the kids and played... and then we played against Crow School's 4th grade class which was a really good game and very entertaining! Our bus driver hopped over to the Crow School side to help them out and we beat him and had fun giving him a hard time. On the bus we sang "We are the champions, Ron is the loser... of handgameeeees!" Later the kids got to get McDonalds and we went back to have a picnic and watch a presentation. It was such a fun morning with a group of very fun kids!
Me & Harly on the field trip in our handgame outfits!
Malachai with his game face on.
Me while playing handgames :) We were showing a group of homeschooled kids from Billings what handgames are and then I invited one of the girls to use my shawl and try.. so a few of them came out and played, it was great!... that boy on the right ended up getting like 4 points! haha we got a kick out of it
Pretty Eagle playing against Crow School
And one of my favorite parts...I'm used to singing songs on the bus on field trips, classic sing-alongs and such, but these kids spent the whole ride home singing hand drum songs on the bus. They are the coolest.
- Friday afternoon many of our students performed in "The Pied Piper". Missoula Children's Theatre came to Pretty Eagle on Monday and rehearsed with students all week, and they put their big show on on Friday. It was adorable!

The cutest little rats!
The awesome leads!
- And tonight, was the Champions Ball for 5th-8th graders. Those kids were fancy! They all looked beautiful and everyone had a lot of fun. (Myself included!)
